Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and the state government for their commitment and hard work in successfully hosting the 2026 Malaysia Games. Anwar said the well-organised and vibrant staging of the Games demonstrated Selangor's ability to host the country's sporting event in a spirit of enthusiasm and togetherness. He also congratulated the athletes, coaches, officials and secretariat involved, saying SUKMA was not merely about winning medals but also a platform for discovering talent and producing champions.
The Prime Minister expressed his hope that the young people would continue striving and honing their talents, as some of them may one day represent Malaysia on the world stage. He also congratulated Selangor's Eliza Tan Ai Shen and Pahang's Cheah Zen Hong, who were named the Best Female and Male Athletes, respectively. Hosts Selangor emerged as the overall champions of SUKMA 2026, with 101 gold medals.
Anwar conveyed his deepest appreciation to the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for gracing the closing ceremony of the 22nd edition of SUKMA. In the same post, Anwar recalled that SUKMA was launched 40 years ago following an idea conceived when he was Youth and Sports Minister in 1983. He noted that SUKMA continues to serve as a platform uniting the talent, spirit and fighting determination of young people from across the country, including Brunei Darussalam.
The closing ceremony of the 2026 Malaysia Games was held at Aneka Walk, SA Sentral, and was attended by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. The ceremony featured a welcome dance, a march-past by athletes, and a parade of the Games' mascots. Selangor's victory in the 2026 Malaysia Games has been celebrated, with the state government declaring September 1 as a special holiday to commemorate the state contingent's success.
