The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) is set to hold a Solat Hajat, or special prayer of needs, at three mosques under its supervision tonight. This move comes as the country grapples with the ongoing haze crisis. The prayers will take place after Maghrib prayers at the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, as well as the Putra Mosque and Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque in Putrajaya.
According to JAKIM director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, the prayers are a response to the decree by the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, calling on all Malaysians to pray and seek Allah's help for the well-being of those affected by the haze. Additionally, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan has also urged Muslims to undertake this effort. Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee has called on Muslims to join in the prayers and ask for protection, health, safety, and peace in the face of this challenge.
He expressed his hope that Allah would protect all Malaysians from harm, safeguard their health and safety, and restore conditions in the affected areas. As of 8 am today, 17 areas in six states, including Sarawak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Melaka, and Perak, as well as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, have recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings. The Solat Hajat is seen as a way for the Muslim community to come together and seek divine intervention in the face of the haze crisis.
By holding these prayers, JAKIM aims to promote a sense of unity and solidarity among Muslims and to seek Allah's mercy and protection. In related news, other parts of the country are preparing for the upcoming National Day celebrations. However, the haze crisis remains a pressing concern, and the government is working to mitigate its effects on the population.
